Do you have a sentimentally irreplaceable sofa or couch that is damaged? Have pets, family, overnight guests, and life in general brought some severe wear and tear to your furniture? The solution doesn’t always have to be to pour thousands of dollars into redecorating a room. Consider reupholstering your furniture.
Reupholstering furniture can be the perfect way to liven up and change a room you’ve grown tired of, all while keeping the shape and lines of the furniture you fell in love with so long ago.
Reupholstery is the restoration of the webbing, springs, frame, and fabric of existing furniture. You can trust an upholstery shop to renew their furniture when the frame is of high quality but the upholstery needs to be repaired or renewed.
Mony people build their reems around the sizes and shapes of their existing furniture. That may mean a huge outlay to change many other elements in yoru rooms if you buy new furnishings. This makes renewing upholstery a good option budget-wise. Furniture is paramount to a room’s overall decor. Re-upholstery is a fashionable and more economical option than purchasing new furniture.
8 Reasons People Choose to Reupholster Their Furniture:
Reupholstery Extends to the Entire Piece
Rеuрhоlѕtеrу іѕ not juѕt the replacement of fabric; іt еxtеndѕ to thе rераіr оr rерlасеmеnt of ѕрrіngѕ, fоаm, раddіng, аnd wооd.
Restoring or Redesigning Quality Pieces
For many people, they realize their furniture piece is still in great shape except for the fabric or cushioning, and its quality construction has lasted longer than same of their newer pieces. Older constructions are often of higher quality and should be preserved. Furniture built with solid hardwood, 8-way hand-tied coil springs, and solid construction are quality pieces worth saving.
Oftentimes in life, people’s styles change. It could be new preferences for color, patterns or design. Or the combining of households. There is certainly no reason to waste a good piece of furniture or dump it into a landfill. For some, new fabrics may be needed because there are children or pets in the home now.
Choose from our collection of designer fabrics, decorative accents, and cushion inserts to create a unique piece of furniture that suits you perfectly.
Another major reason for reupholstering is purely sentimental. Your chair, sofa or loveseat may be your favorite piece of furniture, or maybe you inherited a piece from your parents, grandparents, or favorite aunt. Sometimes everyone in the family loves a piece, including the dog!
Reupholstery costs less than a comparable-quality new piece of furniture. Our fabrics span a wide range in price, so we can work within your budget.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Reupholster. Keep beautiful furniture out of landfills using our wide variety of recycled and environmentally friendly fabrics.
Reupholstery Helps Save the Environment
Buying new furnishings signals furniture manufacturers to use more raw materials to create more low-quality furnishings. We’ll use only the materials and resources we need to restore your already rugged and strong frame to its former glory. You’ll help save the planet and your favorite furnishings simultaneously.
Remember, not all furniture has to be the same pattern. Matching in color schemes or choosing complimentary colors is sure to give you a vibrant and chic look like you had an interior designer come in and design your home. That old furniture will look brand new with new stuffing and new life added to it.
In the end, the decision is up to you. You’re the one who’s spend countless hours sitting in your chair or sofa. You’re the one who knows just how solidly it’s built. If you feel that this piece of furniture is worth saving, upholstery repair may be the best option.

Plastic blinds are extremely common on rentals and new homes. It makes sense because they’re cheap and they work. But plastic blinds are the dry bread of window treatments. Let’s look at some ways you can add flavor and make your windows look delicious.
There are two paths to revamping your windows: ordering custom treatments or shopping retail. Getting help from a custom window covering specialist is always best because it cuts down on the risk of error, but you can go the DIY route if you’re on a budget.
First Things First: Before You Buy
Before doing anything else, decide what you want your window covering to do for you. Are you looking to create privacy, control light levels, or make your space meet your aesthetic tastes? Maybe two of these things but not the other? Figure out your priorities before you move forward.
Now check out Pinterest, or Instagram, or where ever you find inspiration. Take notice of window covering where you go. Start paying attention and narrowing down what you like and what you like about those things.
Instead of deciding on an exact budget, it’s good to know what range you’re able to spend. Consider if you’d want to get new coverings for fewer windows to get what you really want where it matters most. Having a whole house of new window coverings you don’t really like doesn’t usually make people happy, even if it keeps them within budget.
And always remember that professional installation should be calculated in as you estimate costs unless you plan to install them yourself.
“Hard” Window Treatments
Some of the things we cover windows with are considered “hard” window treatments. This includes shutters and blinds. Blinds are adjustable and can block most light, let most light through, or do something in between. Shutters can be adjustable, but are not always. There are mass produced versions of these, or custom ones can be made. These impart a clean look, and have simple lines.
“Soft” Window Treatments
Soft window treatments include shades and curtains. Although they don’t allow for light-filtering adjustments like blinds, they come in varying levels of opacity. Curtains bring a soft look, and shades can be soft like roman shades, or be more strict looking, like a roll-shade.
Whatever you decide on, having a professional help you with measurements is always a good idea. Contact Armand’s Draperies with any questions you have or to get started on new window covering today!
Step one is to decide if you want your window to seem taller, wider, or both. Don’t just default to making them look bigger all around. Sometimes the illusion of taller or wider windows is more attractive with your space, either making the ceilings seem higher, or creating the illusion of a longer wall, and therefore larger room. Step back and look at your space before taking action. Set your goals based on the room.
These sheer curtains span from ceiling to floor and wall to wall, even though the windows certainly don’t. Our mind casually reads this as an entire wall of window, though.
Choosing Your Rod Length
Instinct might lead you to think that rod length should match the width of your window, or extend a bit beyond so that the curtains can move completely out of the view. And that is certainly one way to do it. It’s also not the only way!
If you want to create the illusion of huge windows, you can make them look much bigger by extending your rod and having more curtain width. Many people choose to add as much as two or three feet of rod length to each side. The mind automatically imagines that behind curtains is window, even if we know for a fact there’s a wall there.
If you have two windows near each other, you can even extend one enormous curtain rod over both of them, gathering curtains at both ends and between the windows. Or you can hang curtains over an entire wall that has one or more windows. This creates the illusion of a continuous window area.
Where Should You Hang Your Curtain Rod?
A natural choice for mounting your curtain rod would be right above the window. This absolutely works to cover the window, but does nothing to help it appear larger.
You can raise the rod a few inches, a few feet, or up to the ceiling to help your window appear taller. Whether you use a cornice board or lambrequin, you can move your curtain rods to the height you’d like your windows to appear to be. Of course, you won’t fool anyone paying close attention, but most people won’t be doing that, especially in this over-head area.
Deciding on Curtain Length
It’s not uncommon to extend curtains beyond the bottom edge of a window. This helps keep light out when the curtains are closed. Many homes have curtains that reach to the floor boards, despite windows ending at waist height. This common trick makes windows seem bigger, and you can use it too. Bring the curtain length all the way down to the floor, but don’t let them drag. That looks pretty on Pinterest, but is a safety hazard in your home.
Choosing Colors or Patterns
Do colors or patterns matter when trying to make your windows look more impressive? Yes, they do. The vertical pattern created by hanging folds of fabric make your windows look taller, and this can be aided or counteracted by fabric patterns.
To keep a simple vertical visual trend, you can use solid colors. Light colors make windows and walls look bigger, and matching the curtains to the walls can create an illusion of a very large room, as long as the color is not dark.
If you want to push the envelope and make things appear very tall, use vertical stripes or patterns that line up vertically. For larger than life windows, use a diagonal stripe. Large horizontal stripes can be used if your focus is to make the windows seem wider but not necessarily taller. Tiny horizontal stripes, on the other hand, work with the vertical folds to create an overall larger look.

When people think of reupholstering their furniture, they’re often planning to make old-looking, shabby fabrics look new again. And reupholstering definitely does that!
But that’s not all that fresh upholstery can do for you!
New Upholstery Reduces Allergens in Your Home
Having a piece of furniture reupholstered doesn’t just change how clean it looks and feels- it changes how clean that chair IS. For people that are allergen-sensitive, or for furniture that has lived with pets for years, the application of fresh fabrics can notably change the histamine reactions of people around the item. This is an effect you won’t get from running a wet-vac over your couch or fabreezing your ottoman.
The Right Upholstery Can Hide or Repel Pet Hair
If you’re more allergic to seeing tufts of your fur-baby’s hair everywhere that to the pet themselves, reupholstering can help you. You can make the hair stand out less with furry tan fabric to match your faun shaggy dog, or pick a salt-and-pepper houndstooth to go with your black and white hounds.
If you’d rather repel than disguise the hair, you can choose slick real and faux leathers, shiny soda-shop style plastics, and other wipe-clean options.
Create a Whole New Look and Feel in Your Home
Have you become more minimalist than your busy floral pattern couch is? Maybe you never were as boring as the tan chairs in the breakfast nook. Because furniture is so central to a room, any changes you make to the texture, color, or form of your furniture has the power to change a room.
By refurbishing with a fabric that fits your personality better, you can change the impression created by the pieces you already have in your home. Trade in something scratchy and dull for velvety and bright. Or switch out busy and distracting for smooth and relaxing. To add to your dramatic change, you can paint the visible wood and metal portions of many chairs, too.
Armond’s Drapery has a selection of fabrics that is truly unmatched. The style you’re going for, the look you want, is here. Once you select the right fabric for you, the staff at Armond’s will transform your furniture for you, making your home into the place you want it to be.
